Intense Pulsed Light Therapy is a gentle treatment, which works by stimulating collagen and elastin production, evening out the complexion and increasing free water levels in the skin.
IPL is one of the most commonly administered forms of light therapy. IPL systems are designed to deliver many rapid, high intensity and controlled pulses of light – similar to photo flashes. The controlled pulsing prevents thermal damage to your skin and minimises discomfort.
This treatment has been designed to reduce sun damage and brown pigmented spots. The IPL works by heating and breaking down the melanin whilst retaining the integrity of the surrounding tissue. The shattered pigment, often looking like freckles or cocoa powdered speckled on your skin, will either flake off or be absorbed via the lymphatic system, leaving you with brighter and plumper skin.
This treatment is particularly effective for people suffering from vascular problems and weakened capillaries, which are often genetic. Veins and capillaries are made of collagen and elastin, so the body’s healing response triggered by the IPL positively affects weakened capillaries, too.
As the water contents from the capillaries evaporate, they can contract and instantly be gone, or coagulate, which will make them temporarily darker. While your lymphatic system will work on dissolving these, you might require several treatments, depending on the treated area and thickness of the vessels.
IPL creates an oxygenated environment on the skin, which kills the P.acne bacteria, reduces infection, and prevents further breakouts.
Our IPL Rejuvenation treatment is aimed at reducing the visible signs of ageing, especially fine lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, and sun damage.
The intensity of your IPL treatment is customisable to your skin concerns and skin type, which enables us to safely work on reaching your desired results.
Before the treatment can start, we will assess your current state of the skin. If you are visiting us for the first time, please allow an additional hour for our complete Facial Imaging Skin Assessment.
A test patch will be carried out at least 24 hours prior to initial treatment to determine the IPL treatment is effective and, most importantly, safe for you.
Recent sun exposure or the application of self-tanners is contraindicated.
It is very important that you keep your skin and body well-hydrated before and after the treatment.
At the start of IPL treatment, the treated area of your skin will be cleaned and a cool gel applied.
You will experience quick warm to hot flicks as the light is applied to your skin, which may leave your skin feeling a little warm afterwards (similar to sunburn). Prickling and a mild stinging sensation can sometimes be present, too - this is normal and to be expected.
Whilst we focus on delivering results, your safety is our highest priority; this is why undergoing a test patch before an IPL treatment is so important.
Immediately following treatment, you may experience some redness (similar to sunburn), which usually disappears within a few hours. In most cases, you will be able to reapply your makeup right after the IPL treatment.
Depending on your skin condition and goals, you might require several follow-up or maintenance treatments and/or homecare.
For several days after treatment, we advise being particularly vigilant about wearing sunscreen and keeping your skin and body hydrated.
A Facial Imaging Skin Assessment is an essential first step in your skin correction journey. That’s why we offer a complimentary skin consultation with your first skin treatment.
